We have used DOQ's to trace from to produce vector line data. This data
became an underlay to produce fairly accurate animations or VRML models.
We have never considered their use as texture maps in VRML models
because they are black and white and quite large (The ones that we have
used were 300mb). The USGS has released a very limited number of DOQ's.
The most common suppliers are regional aerial survey firms. I have seen
resolutions vary between 1m. and 3cm. I hope this info is useful.
